夏に見る根元には300年の重みが有ってどっしりした根株です。ずんぐりタイプです。季節の湯殿山おろしで、矮性化しています。スノーモンスターになる時も有ります。3分の２は雪の中です。
矮性ブナ越しにコメツガが。
